Fiorella Mavares (03-23-12) Bayfront Park Fountain Design Process

Silvana Herrera [March 23]

We continue to develop the design of the fountain taking into account the slope of the ground and ADA requirements. We are currently working on both a rhino 3D Model and a small physical model. We are also producing a series of digital diagrams and hand drawn sketches.

Developed study models at 1/32"=1'0" for the Amstel River Pedestrian Bridge Competition in Amsterdam. The bridge will be situated directly in front of the Amsterdam Hermitage Museum, and must span 90 meters (295 feet) across the Amstel. The initial idea is a linear gesture across the river which splits into two paths, separating cyclists from pedestrians.

Ideas about the placement of program within  the envelope of the bridge influenced a widening of the bridge at distinct moments, while the center line of the bridge remains straight. A new study model at 1/16th scale responds to other functions in a similar manner: strips bend down from the edge to become structure, a cafe is placed underneath the space of the bicycle path.

Went on a site visit to a house in Miami Beach which is currently under construction for an office client. The house is approximately 5000 square feet and has 7 bedrooms. The house has many outdoor living spaces and multiple double-height indoor living spaces.  Continued developing the Amstel bridge through a model at 1/8th scale. Issues of structure became more important as the long span of the river more apparent through the increase in scale.

Submitted our design proposal for the Amsterdam Bridge Competition . The project considers the dual circulation of traffic as it connects the banks of the Amstel River through a spatially-varied  form articulating the new entrance to the Hermitage Museum.
