[Silvana Herrera] January- February

January 20th
The first week we were introduced to an unsolicited project for Downtown Miami. The project consists on the redesign of an existing water feature in Bayfront Park. The design objective is to reconfigure the fountain (which is currently closed) to provide access and redesign it to allow a wide range of activities.
We started to do research on the history of the site and drew site plans of the Bayfront Park area.

January 27th
In the second week we visited the site of the project (Bayfront Park) and documented the area.
We began to search for precedents and started to develop conceptual analysis of the area and diagrams of the design intent.

February 3rd
On February 3rd, we Developed digital diagrams and hand drawn sketches of our design intent.
We were introduced to the Florida Building Code and the 2012 Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction. We researched ADA standards for accessible design in order to resolve circulation and accessibility issues (Railings, stairs and ramps).

February 17th
We Continued developing the design with digital diagrams and hand drawn sketches. We started a 3D model of the site to better understand the slopes of the fountain and the existing features.
We also went on a site visit to a 5,000sf house in Miami Beach currently under construction. I had visited the site when only the footings and portions of the formwork were in place. A year later, the concrete structure is completed and the building's interior is under construction. The building is raised from the ground about 3-4 feet to comply with the city's Floodplain Management regulations. The house is features double height spaces along the public areas of the house and about 7 bedrooms.
